Makoto Hasebe is a Japanese footballer currently playing as a defensive midfielder for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. 34-year-old Hasebe is the captain of the Japan National Football Team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Early Career and Early Life

Makoto Hasebe was born on January 18, 1984, in Fujieda, Shizuoka, Japan. He briefly played with 
Fujieda Higashi High School from 1991-2001.

Then after his high school graduation in 2002, Makoto commenced his senior career journey with the Urawa Red Diamonds.

Playing Career

Urawa Red Diamonds (2002-2007)

In 2002 after his graduation, Makoto Hasebe joined J1 League side Urawa Red Diamonds and in the 2003 season, Hasebe became a regular of their senior team. Soon his incredible game earned Hasebe the honor of 2004 J. League Cup New Hero Award.

With the Red Diamonds, Makoto won 2003 J. League Cup, 2006 J. League Division 1, 2006 Japanese Super Cup, and Emperor's Cup (2005, 2006) while playing till 2007 alongside the record of 12 goals in 149 appearances.

VfL Wolfsburg (2008-2013)

Well, in October 2007, the news of Makoto's signing with Serie A side A.C. Siena came in, but he penned a contract with VfL Wolfsburg in 2008 and later extended the contract to play for the club till 2012. 

The first ever Japanese to play for the club, Makoto left Wolfsburg in 2013 contributing 5 goals in 135 appearances.

Move from 1. FC Nurnberg to Eintracht Frankfurt

Makoto Hasebe sealed down the 3-year contract with 1. FC Nurnberg on September 2, 2013, but after playing 14 games without a score, he released the contract. Then on July 1, 2014, Hasebe joined Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

With the team, Hasebe lifted the 2017–18 DFB-Pokal title, being the 5th for the club. His records stand 2 goals in 100 appearances with Frankfurt. His contract extension dues till 2019.

International Career

Hasbe made his International debut with the senior team on February 11, 2006, in a friendly match against the USA at AT&T Park and in 2008, he became friends with attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa along with their victory in 2008 Kirin Cup. 

Though he couldn't represent his nation in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Makoto Hasebe later became the on-field captain for Japan National Team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

He also appeared for the National Team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and now is set for his 3rd FIFA World Cup appearance. Hasebe has scored 2 International goals to date.

Personal Life 

Makoto Hasebe stands 5ft 11 inches in height and weighs 72 kg. The Japanese National Team captain is married to his wife Arisa Sato, a Japanese model, and weathercaster. The couple walked down the aisle on July 9, 2016, after years of dating.

The couple reportedly started dating in 2013.
